The agony of Mozilla Firefox

Last update: 23 Jan 2019

I’ve been a user of Mozilla Firefox since 1.0. It was a great browser that beat Internet Explorer 6 in basically everything. But for some reason Mozilla decided to make it more and more unusable by adding malicious features and removing useful ones. I decided to document the agony of Firefox in detail.

Removal of status bar

Date: March 22, 2011

Version: 4.0

Yeah, this was the first sign. Before 4.0 there was a status bar which showed tons of useful info such as download progress. But then for some unknown reason Mozilla decided to remove it. Why? I dunno. Thankfully, I fixed this by installing Status-4-Evar addon.

Firefox Sync

Date: March 22, 2011

Version: 4.0

Firefox Sync is a way to sync browser data such as bookmarks between several devices. Sound good so far… As long as I can do it on my own computer. Current UI almost forces you to create an account on Mozilla servers and store your data there which is a huge security hole. Also, if you really want to use it on your server, you will have to also run Firefox Accounts server. Really? So yeah, implementation is total shit and adds nothing useful for security minded folks.

Date: April 29, 2014

Version: 29

Oh yeah, let’s break UI again with insanely unusable piece of shit! When Firefox 29 arrived, I couldn’t believe my eyes. How am I supposed to use this? Retarded tabs were now forced on top, most functionality was moved into “hamburger” button. Thankfully, Classic Theme Restorer saved me here. But this time my anger began to really pile up.

Date: May 12, 2015

Version: 38

This one was silent. Mozilla added proprietary DRM to Firefox. Nice move, keep claiming you are for open internet, cunts. Thankfully, few about:config tweaks are enough to disable it.

Date: June 2, 2015

Version: 38.0.5

Another useless proprietary service shoved down people’s throats. It was already apparent that Mozilla became extremely evil and should be destroyed.

Removal of all old addons

Date: November 14, 2017

Version: 57

The holocaust by the nazis of Mozilla. All old addons - the only thing that made Firefox usable - were removed. What’s left is a shitty Google Chrome knockoff. At this point, there is no saving it. Firefox is dead. I’m staying on ESR branch until I find a better browser.

Mr Robot addon

Date: December 15, 2017

Version: 57.0.2

This time Mozilla just silently uploaded malware to Firefox users. Now they are just fucking with us.

Firefox 60 ESR arrives to Debian Testing

Date: November 8, 2018

Version: 60.3

Right now it is apparent that Mozilla is extremely evil and greedy corporation that should not be interacted with in any way. Too bad that I still use Firefox and Thunderbird as of writing this, but I will need to look for alternatives. And you should too.
